CATCH A FISH OR GET A GLIMPSE OF DOLPHIN
Known to casual and serious anglers alike as the "Fishing Capital of Texas," Port Aransas offers up challenges and a string of rewards for everyone. Virtually every type of angler casting around for a hot spot will find their own paradise in Port Aransas. Launch your boat from one of our many marinas or hire a private charter for the fishing trip of a lifetime. Tackle the deep blue waters on an offshore excursion and reel in kingfish, sailfish, marlin, tuna and more.
For those that prefer to keep their feet dry, Port Aransas has four public, lighted fishing piers and the popular south jetty for around the clock casting. Bay fishing is also outstanding in the waterways surrounding Mustang Island, where limits of redfish, flounder, black drum and trout are common place.
For instant gratification, bring your fresh catch to a local eatery and have them cook it up, just the way you like it. Sit back and enjoy while dining waterside.
Competitive fishing is big business in this little town. 'Port A' hosts over 20 fishing tournaments during the summer months, including the oldest fishing tournament on the Texas Gulf Coast, the Deep Sea Roundup, celebrating its 81st anniversary. Bring the family down to Port Aransas for some fun in the sun, whether you choose to participate or just watch the weigh-in and enjoy the festivities. A fishing tournament is always a great excuse for a family vacation! Port Aransas hosts a different tournament nearly every weekend from May through August ranging from kids to women only and billfish to redfish tournaments. It's a reel good time to be shared by all.
Fishing isn't the only way to see marine life. Dolphin are plentiful here, and 'Port A' is regarded as one of the best places in the country to take a dolphin tour. Dolphins are inquisitive, and might just surprise you by coming over to check you out. Seeing these creatures in the wild is sure to be a memorable experience and a highlight of any beach vacation.
