Suzanne Altamare - Master Sculptor Coordinator

Suzanna Altamare began sculpting sand in 1982 and has created mainly "soft sand sculptures" (no compaction or forms) but works also in compacted sand. She began coordinating sand sculptors at SandFest in 2025. She chooses and invites sculptors, decides the theme for display sculptures, designs and supervises the building of display sculptures, then runs the contest. Suzanne loves gardening and cat rescue. Her (TNR) Trap Neuter Return colony of cats numbered 60 just 20 years ago. After years of "trapping" and "fixing" the colony is down to 15 with no kittens in 7 years. She sees sand sculpting as a means to bring imagination out for everyone to see. Hopefully it inspires viewers to try the impossible. And yes, coordinating sculptors IS like herding cats.
