What Does Your Boat Say About Your Book?

Port Aransas Reader’s Guide to Fishing & Fiction

Milkshake Book Club

In May 2025, our very own Port Aransas was officially named the Fishing Capital of Texas—and let’s be real, we locals already knew that. But now it’s official, and with that title comes more boats, more anglers, more tourists… and (for those of us not holding rods) more time to kick back, soak up the sun, and read.

Whether you’ve got sea legs strong enough to curl up below deck in the belly of a yacht, or you’re the kind who needs to keep your eyes on the horizon from the aft with a book in hand and a cold drink nearby—there’s something magical about reading on the water. Especially when you’re waiting for those rod tips to bend with the promise of dinner.

That got me thinking…
What does your boat say about your book choices?
Or maybe—what kind of book should you be reading on your boat?

Can you turn a slow trolling morning into a Pirates of the Caribbean fantasy? Can a spicy romance pair with a skiff in the shallows? Can a psychological thriller be the perfect companion while waiting for a marlin to strike offshore?

Yes. Yes. And absolutely yes.

So I did the work for you. Whether you're heading out on a bay boat for a laid-back day on the flats, or boarding a deep-sea charter in search of your personal Moby Dick, I've curated the perfect reads to match your sea-faring style.

Grab your sunscreen, your polarized shades, and one of these titles—
because reading on a boat isn’t just a vibe…
it’s a lifestyle.

Our Book Club is not just a bunch of women sitting around talking.... errr.... it kind of is, but it's more than that. Our Book Club has prompts we discuss with each book. We take elements of the books we read and go into deeper (or more fun) discussions about how the book correlates with our current lives.
