Statewide Legal Requirements (Texas Parks & Wildlife)

1. Minimum Age to Operate:

   • Operators must be at least 13 years old.

   • Ages 13–17 must complete a Boater Education Course and carry a valid certification.

   • Under 13 must be accompanied by someone 18+ who meets all legal requirements.

2. Life Jackets Are Mandatory:

   • All riders must wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times.

   • Life jackets must be properly fastened and fit appropriately.

3. Cut-Off Switch Lanyard:

   • The operator must wear the engine kill switch lanyard attached to the wrist or life jacket.

4. Daylight Use Only:

   • Jet skis may only be operated from sunrise to sunset—no night riding allowed.

5. Speed & Distance Laws:

   • No driving within 50 feet of shorelines.

   • Maintain safe, controlled speeds—especially near the marina, jetties, and other congested areas.
