Public Relations & Communications Manger Job description
SUMMARY:
The Public Relations & Communications Manager’s primary responsibility is to enhance our destination's reputation and drive economic growth. The position will work as an integral part of the marketing team to ensure that messaging is consistent, compelling, and aligns with brand values. This role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a passion and drive for promoting Port Aransas. The goal is to produce compelling marketing content across earned and owned channels to elevate Port Aransas as the premier family beach destination in the Gulf. The public relations and communications manager will manage Visit Port A’s media relations, crisis communications, and directly support email marketing efforts and content needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Media Relations
- Develop and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
- Draft press releases, media pitches, and other written materials to promote key initiatives, events, and announcements.
- Serve as a spokesperson for the organization to travel journalists & local media.
- Coordinate media visits and press events, including managing logistics, coordinating interviews, and ensuring positive media coverage.
- Monitor media coverage and create reports to track the effectiveness of PR campaigns.
- Create and maintain a branded destination media kit.
- Attend media tradeshows and missions to develop and maintain relationships with media partners.
Communications
- Collaborate with the Marketing Communications Director to develop engaging and informative content for various communication channels—including websites, social media platforms, and newsletters.
- Coordinate the organization’s email newsletter communication strategy and report on the effectiveness of these efforts.
- Ensure effective and informative communication with local tourism partners and community stakeholders.
The Port A Way
- Represent Port Aransas at community events and industry tradeshows, professional development opportunities, and local organizations, seeking out speaking roles as opportunities for brand-building and advocacy.
- Cultivate and manage successful relationships with vendors as needed.
- Support and foster a work environment that promotes teamwork.
SKILLS:
- Excellent writing, reporting, and editing skills with demonstrated experience required.
- Experience working with email distribution software and list management.
- Demonstrates proficiency with popular social media channels, enjoys storytelling, and consumes media to stay abreast of current trends.
- Utilizes excellent writing and presentation skills.
- Values teamwork and interpersonal communications.
- Maintains abilities to work independently, troubleshoot, exercise strong judgment, and operate with decisiveness.
- Proficiency in graphic design software such as Canva or Adobe products.
- Displays flexibility and agility to adapt to changing and emergent business requirements and objectives.
- Exhibits a passion for Port Aransas and a desire to learn and grow.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in English, public relations, journalism, communications, or related field from four-year college or university and 3+ years related experience.
- Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed.
- Experience with working with creative teams and achieving deadlines.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.

Job Description
Supports the Welcome Center operations, fulfilling visitor inquiries and providing support for the Tourism Bureau/Chamber Staff and the various tourism projects ongoing at the Center. The Welcome Center Assistant works with the objectives of a) Serving visitor inquiries in the region; b) maintaining the welcome center operations (cleanliness; organization); and c) supporting special project needs for hospitality partners and/or staff.
